Doing Some Housekeeping

I changed a couple of things here tonight. First was my profile pic. The one I had was taken close to 13 years ago. My hair was short because I was unemployed and I didn't thinkprospective employers wanted to hire an aging hippy. At that time, in 2010, I was unemployed for about 9-1/2 months. So I guess people didn't want to hire an aging anything. I was 54 at the time. The current profile pic is the same one from my Facebook page. I amy change the photo later. My handle here has changed as well. I figured that 74WIXYgrad has seen better days. Might as well use my own name, Cliff. It has been a long time since I interacted with the radio folks and local radio has changed. But the name of the blog will remain the same. I had wanted to do a podcast for many years. The first name I kicked around was the WIXY's Gone Bananas Podcast. I guess, at that time, I didn't persue it quite enough. But I have 2 podcasts now. Inside Cliff's Mind, which I record when I have a long

Some Thoughts and Extra Hot Fudge

I am trying to chase away the blues today. I just turned 67 a few days ago, so as a lovely parting gift, age 66 left me was a roller coaster of blood glucose readings. A wave of depression comes with that at times. So, I decided to visit an old friend, my blog. While I was active before, I did as I am currenty doing with my podcast, promoting Rittman, Ohio, the town I have called home for the past 39 years.  This evening as I got off work, my wife asked me to go over to Pop's Shake Shack and get her a hot fudge sundae. Her usual sundae consists of chocolate ice cream, hot fudge, and whipped cream. Today, she wanted no whipped cream and extra fudge. So off to town I go. My first stop was the IGA. I needed to treat myself and my treat was a chef salad. Once again, I need to get things under control. Then it's off to Pop's. Pop's Shake Shack is a business located in downtown Rittman, or the heart of the 44270. David Collins started this business in the middle of the pande

Maybe it Should Be Called "Hatebook"

I was in communication with a friend today. He was intending on exiting any social media platform he was participating in. The reason? He was feeling that there was mainly hate on the platforms and it was getting worse. In an election cycle, presidential, midterm, off-year, and otherwise, it seems this is the case. I used to see the statement, "My country, right or wrong." I think many now perceive it as "My PARTY right or wrong." I am not being partisan with this post. I see things with both republicans and democrats that are downright demoralizing as some folks put on the blinders. They see nothing wrong to the party they claim allegience to and nothing right from the opposing party. Funny thing about this is that these narrowminded people accuse churchgoers of being narrowminded. Come now, let us reason together.... One side accuses the other of  pushing an agenda.  I do have an agenda to push. My agenda is positivity, My first post on Facebook and Twitter is th

Post 1400: I used to pay tribute to radio stations....

I can remember some of my milestone posts. Post 1100 paid tribute to WTAM/1100. 1220 paid tribute to 1220/WGAR, and WIXY/1260 was th tribute to that number. That has been a while ago.  Thank you to the people who gave me a warm reception as I made my comeback post, of sorts. As previously stated, I had my Facebook account hacked last winter. I had 981 "friends" at the time. Most of those folks tolerated me and I thought it was cool to have that number of friends. I currently am at 279 and have no ambition to go much higher.  And since I am now a podcaster, many of the old school radio people I was friends with, may look down upon me. The important people now with the podcast is my audience and others in Rittman, Ohio. Matter of fact, this blog has much about the 44270. I may have to repeat some of the classic posts on my blog at Rittmanpress.com .  And as I am learning how to put together a decent website, I may have to do some housekeeping over hers and clean up some links.

What is Five Years Between Posts?

The last time I wrote anything on this blog was almost 5 years ago. If you haven't followed me since then, what has happened? My book was published and you can get your copy of Caricatures Of My Mind from Amazon . I was promoted to sales developer on my job, a position I still have today.  During the pandemic, folks in the company I work for were sent home to do our jobs, where most of us still are. Those of you who prefer I keep my hair short will be disappointed to know that I currently sport a ponytail halfway down my back. You may ask why and I will tell you that I am almost 67 years old, an, d I can.  And if the trolls are still out there, you will be happy to know that I am still band announcer for Rittman, still one of the most popular in press boxes in northeast Ohio, and this Friday, I will be completing my 23rd season as the voice of the Rittman Indians Marching Band. And our nickname is still the Indians. I still write poetry. I may have missed one day in the past 10 ye
