This is another story, musing, or whatever you want to call what I am doing for my upcoming book, The Daily Uplift. Today's post was something I first thought about as I was driving home from a ,medical appointment.
Divine Handcuffs
Most of
these small stories are written after I have written the poem at the end. This
one has both written as I go along.
This may be
religious in nature, but my faith is a big part of my personality. As I stated
in one of my earlier writings, I can imagine a previous pastor coming up to me
and saying “Brother Cliff, I want to talk to I claim no calling from above or
special dispensation for writing this book. I do claim encouragement from some
very good and well-meaning friends.
One of the most dangerous things you can tell
someone is “I feel that it’s God’s will” when they are doing something. When
you are active in the church, you hear it all the time. Or if you are doing
something that someone doesn’t like, then “It’s NOT God’s will” or my favorite
(tongue in cheek) “It’s of the devil.”
This thought
came to me as I was driving home from the doctor’s office yesterday. Too often,
people tend to slap a set of divine handcuffs on a person. This may be
regarding a job they are working, a relationship, going to a certain church, or
entering a field of study. This could very well be somebody saying, “I think
this is God’s will”, or this oldie but goodie. “God told me to tell you.”
My years in
going to church and reading my Bible tells me that God has two wills. His
Divine will and His permissive will. It is up to us to discern what His will
for us is. The Bible says in Philippians 2:12 to work out your own salvation
with fear and trembling. We are all free moral agents and are free to find His
will ourselves.
We are all equal in God’s eyes
His will should not be a surprise
We all have a choice
To seek out His voice
For directions to where our future
lies
Who the Son
sets free is free indeed.
