Human Comic Book Characters and Managers

Cliff Note: This is the third post in a series I originally wrote in late January-early February, 2008. My original intent in writing this was for a walk down memory lane, first watching wrestling on Saturday night with my brother and years later watching on Saturday morning first with my oldest daughter then my son. At those times it was nowhere near the product that is put out nowadays, which is more geared towards adult audiences. What follows is from the original post. Once again I will be providing links to Wikipedia. In my pre t eenage years, I discovered how much I enjoyed getting lost in a good comic book. I was a big DC comics fan, first Batman, then Superman, Flash, Green Lantern, and so on. I was also aware of another comic book company, Marvel. They had Spider-man, Fantastic Four, Captain America, and the incredible Hulk, among others in their stable. In a way, pro wrestling was that way in the late eighties. WWF was D.C. and NWA/WCW was Marvel. I mainly watched WWF for awh...

End of Week Notes

First, thanks to everybody who wished me a happy birthday yesterday. I hope to get around and personally thank those whom I haven't yet. The day was quite pleasant. One of the presents I received was an Applebee's gift card. We ate well last night. No football tonight, so this weekend will be spent raking leaves and doing other yard work as weather permits. Mrs74 is still not cleared to go back to work, so I hope to get some part time work for the holidays. I have an interview at K-Mart next week. My daughter works there and let me use the intercom last night to hawk some merchandise. The manager on duty was very impressed. My experience in retail should help. I will be sooo glad when this election is over. I hope those who received the QBQ email from me yesterday took some time to read it. I thought it was enlightening. Congratulations to the Philadelphia Phillies and former Cleveland Indians manager Charlie Manuel on their World Series championship. Have a great Halloween, an...

ME! Today, I am 53.

From the Pressbox-Senior Night 2008

On a cold and rainy fall night at Rittman Stadium, the Rittman Fighting Indians played the Hillsdale Falcons on October 24 for the final contest of the 2008 football season. It was senior night and the participants of fall sports, band, and cheerleaders in their final year of high school were honored before the game began. Pregame saw the senior band members, play John Phillip Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever" while the rest of the band stood in their usual "R" formation. After this, then the whole band played the national anthem, then it was game time. With Halloween approaching, the band were all dressed in the costume of their choice as they entertained the cold, but appreciative home crowd for one last time in 2008. Our senior majorette, Brooke, dressed as a referee, was featured by herself as the band played the Rolling Stone's classic "Paint it Black," Despite the cold and wet field conditions, the band gave their usual exceptional perfor...

My how times have changed....

This morning as I was going to work, I stopped at the Marathon station at the rt. 94 intersection of I-76 in Wadsworth. I was getting my morning paper. I parked in front of the store and I saw this young lady go in before me. I was getting a paper. She was getting a cup of coffee and a donut. As I was getting ready to leave, I noticed her unlocking her car. I bring this up because I remember when I was young and when I would go to Lawson's with one of my parents for bread and milk we would go in and leave the car running with the door unlocked and not think about it. Now people stop in Wadsworth, of all places and they don't feel safe enough to leave their car unlocked when they go into a convenience store and their car is within sight while their in the store. Sad when you think about it.

Rolling Acres Memories Revised

Cliff Note: I am rewriting this, originally posted in November, 2006, because I read in this morning's Akron Beacon Journal that the 8 remaining non-anchor stores will have to close since FirstEnergy is due to cut the power off in the mall due to non payment. Rolling Acres Mall in Akron, Ohio has been, for years, a "white elephant." when the mall was in it's planning stages, it was to be built in a more affluent area, but an outcry of the residents in that area caused a change in plans. It's location is in between one of the poorer areas of Akron, and Barberton, which has been for years a depressed community. Also take into account that there is a lack of access roads to the mall and it's no wonder the mall has been dying for years. What now follows is from the original post. I have some memories of my own. December 1, 1977 was a somewhat chilly Saturday night. It was the night which I took my future wife on our first date. We saw the movie "Heroes"...

From a "Battleground State"

I am going to make this one short and sweet. I live in Ohio, in this election season, one of the so called "Battleground states," a state crucial for any candidate presidential hopes. Of course we have had many visits from presidential and vice presidential candidates. Other blogs have dissected both campaigns so I will not. The only questions I have is will the promises made by either of these candidates exclusive to these states be fulfilled, or will they prove only to be hot air?
