BP does not own the stations in Ohio

I always get amused by those who decide they want to make a comment and insult my intelligence here and not leave me a clue as to what their identity is. Early this morning one such person did just that. Here is what this person wrote:
"Yeah smart move boycott BP and put American workers out of work. BP are independently owned and operated by small business owners here in Ohio. You never cease to amaze me with your lack of knowledge."

Now I would consider this constructive criticism until I look at the last sentence. Obviously one of the message board posters who probably misses my presence there. But hey, I can use all the readers I can get! Gives people another view besides the one of the host of the afternoon show at the 50,000 blowtorch coming out of Independence.

Now after doing some research, I say this person is right about one thing: All BP stations in Ohio are franchises, owned by people other than BP. However, the gas still comes from BP.

Now most of these stations are convenience stores as well and it is a well known fact that all other items in this store have a larger profit margin than gasoline, which nets the station owner 10 cents a gallon. And if the station is one that still has a service bay and the mechanic is one you trust, keep on using his service. Just fill your tank at Marathon or Sunoco before going there.

Just my way of trying to keep people employed slightly above poverty level.

My question is the franchizes bought from BP? if so ythe owners are paying fees to keep their franchises.thus BP is the unltimate owners of these stations.

When I start reading comments on the "public" blogs, I get depressed about the absolute loss of civility. I mean, people come off as being really mean. Why can't they just make their points instead of calling each other whatever word they can get away with? I don't get it. And anyhow, you don't put anyone out of work because you have to buy gas SOMEWHERE. It's not like you quit buying gas or even cut down. You just go down the road.

WIXY is as phony as a 3 dollar bill. He takes shots at various people on the message boards then cries foul when they defend themselves against him. As I said he is as phony as a $3 bill.

I'd respond to the anon above, but...no. I'll restrain myself.

For the record, however, I don't buy BP gas (I don't drive = no reason to) but I DO go to the BP down the street and usually buy two 20 ounce bottles of Tradewinds Extra Sweet Tea. Not exactly healthy, but hey, better tasting than some energy drinks (5 Hour Energy)...

Who was crying foul? I even gave you some props when I did some research. Thanks for reading my blog and tell Triv I said hi!

Jeremy, you probably put more into the pocket of the owner of that station than BP's pocket by buying the tea. That's a good thing.

Most places that I have frequented even before the gulf incident sell Marathon products. Marathon is based in Findlay, Ohio.

And Speedway is also a "Marathon" brand

Post 800: Time to chat

Hi Guys, It's hard to believe that this is post number 800 for this blog. I started this blog out of my desire to communicate. Since radio and television is becoming more and more automated and less and less personal, I'm glad I made the decision to go in this direction as it has given me many blessings. When I first decided to write my musings, a friend from the radio and television boards who goes by the name of newsnomore, told me not to be discouraged if I didn't get any readers. The fact that I did in the early going made me surprised and grateful that anyone was enjoying what I wrote. I've had people tell me that maybe it wasn't meant for me to ever be in radio, that maybe my calling was blogging. Nowadays I think blogging makes for better two way conversation than terrestrial radio, especially the way I do it, non confrontational. The closest I come from any confrontation is the innocent digs that Pat and I shoot at each other. On an average day I get betwee...

Why?

What I'm posting now is with the blessing of Chelle. Chelle is the cousin of Suzanne's husband, Richard. I had gotten the impression from both of them that they were about as close as sisters. Suzanne had been a friend of mine since I had discovered one of her blogs in July, 2006. We would make reference to each other on our blogs and would have dialogue via email quite a bit. It was no surprise to me that she was friends to many other bloggers as well. I felt it was quite an honor to be held in as high esteem as I was. We even talked to each other on the phone on occasion. I felt as we had known each other for a long time. I also knew that Suzanne was having some personal problems, much of which had to do with a very troubled marriage. I would let her bounce things off me, and I would send her some encouragement. While she was going through some of her marital problems, she made herself available to give me a lift when I needed it. My son was having some problems of his own a...

From a "Battleground State"

I am going to make this one short and sweet. I live in Ohio, in this election season, one of the so called "Battleground states," a state crucial for any candidate presidential hopes. Of course we have had many visits from presidential and vice presidential candidates. Other blogs have dissected both campaigns so I will not. The only questions I have is will the promises made by either of these candidates exclusive to these states be fulfilled, or will they prove only to be hot air?
