Since I've been out of work, I've been doing much more of the cooking. Today Kathy suggested we make macaroni and cheese for supper. We are not big fans of that powdered stuff in the boxes and feel it's much better over popcorn and did not have any Velveeta in the house.
Now based on a couple of responses I had to a question I posted on Facebook, I guess some think that Velveeta is to cheese what spam is to meat, but anyway I went to the Rittman IGA to buy a loaf of this pasteurized cheese product. Now the IGA usually has most of what I need. They are locally owned, and they treat the customer like they are there for them. This was a change from previous ownership. And they usually have their inventory where it belongs.
So I now go into the store to get the Velveeta. Cliff Note:Kraft is paying me nothing for this post. Kathy knows when I go into the store to get one item, it's very rare that I come home with one item. After picking up 2 newspapers, it was over to the dairy section to get the cheese product, which was not there. I checked other aisles and could not find it. I looked next to the fake potato products, the boxed dinners, and even the pasta aisle. In the meantime, I discovered that 12oz packages of Ole Carolina bacon was still on sale for 99 cents. I picked up 2 of them, as I bought one last week and it was pretty good.
Now I got to thinking, "where is the obvious place I'm overlooking?" I was sure that if I asked someone they would look at me as if I lost my mind. I also wondered if maybe someone discovered that Velveeta had a half life and ordered it removed from all shelves and nobody told me. But lo and behold, I discovered it. It was right next to the Mexican dinners. I guess someone felt it belonged there, and it was across from the milk. I then put a loaf, on sale for $3.99, in my cart and headed for the checkout. On my way I got myself a bottle of diet Faygo root beer.
Now I explained to the cashier that I had a hard time locating the pasteurized process cheese product, and started to think that maybe I was starting to suffer from dementia. I mean, I am 54 years old and I lived through the seventies. she told me that she never knows where they put the stuff either. Maybe the next time they have a contest, instead of having where's Waldo, they could have where's the Velveeta.
Now the macaroni and cheese was delicious, but if I start glowing in the dark, we will know it does have a half life.

Mac and cheese sounds great, but I must have my chili sauce with 'em HE HE HE...
But I made sure that this was a very well balanced post to keep my anonymous friend happy.
BTW, the IGA still has the best fried chicken in Wayne County.
I think that most of the chickens in Wayne county [or any other county for that matter] would vociferously disagree that ANY fried chicken is the best. [except for maybe the suicidal chickens]
