Cliff and Kathy's Excellent Adventure

Lately there has been way too much drama, caused by other people, in our lives. As some of you read on Facebook last night, Kathy and I decided to have a day for ourselves, some "us time" if you may. We decided to head south. To Amish country. But first, a stop for breakfast. Kathy loves the cinnamon raisin french toast served in the Main Street Cafe, in Buehler's supermarket. I had a southern sausage skillet. The main breakfast rush was over by the time we got there, so we had a nice quiet meal. Beautiful weather, and we had a view of the school kids at recess. Good to see them out getting some fresh air.

After we finished our fine dining, it's off to Kidron, We were going to stop first at the outdoor flea market, but we couldn't find a parking space, so we hit the road again.

Next stop was Country Salvage Ltd., formerly known as Bent and Dent. Our last stop there was over two years ago and then we got some great deals. I suspect since then, because of the recession, they got quite a bit more popular and the prices have gone up. Still cheaper than the Evil Big Box Store(tm), but not worth a trip there by itself.

Once we hit the road again, we headed towards the Ashery Country Store. Since this was more for rest and relaxation than anything else, we got a few bulk items, including some things to snack on, and some drinks. We then headed back towards downtown Kidron.

We were able to find a parking space this time and walked around the flea market, being careful not to step in the horse exhaust. Cliff Note:I should have gone into the general store and bought some Shinola, just so I could let Kathy know that I knew the difference. Being early in the year, I noticed that many folks were proud of what they sold. I may come back later when their prices reflect less pride in their wares. We got our exercise in, bought a few items then it was back on the road, this time for the trip home.

Looks to me like a day well spent together.
I hope you both have many more stress-less days ahead of you. You deserve it.
Some of my best days spent with the husband are at home depot or sitting on the back patio looking at our garden. :0

Linda and I have been to what was "Bent and Dent" s few times..We need a day off for a drive like that soon. One thing I like about Northeast Ohio (especially where we are)..You are within just a few miles of several big cities, or within a few miles of the country..

Bent N Dent is better. All of those places are some of or favorites as well. You should have kept going on 83 for the Bargain Shed. They have been better than Bent N Dent of late.

Kidron Town and Country is where Levi gets his Amish Levi's. That is one unique store. Amish clothing in the basement!

Lawson's Chip Dip

On a couple of occasions I have written posts dedicated to Lawson's, a convenience store chain that was located in Ohio for close to 50 years. In the late 1980's the chain was bought out by Dairy Mart, of Engfield Ct. Dairy Mart was then purchased by Alimentation Couche-Tard, and most stored were rebranded Circle K. Something that has survived the years since Lawson's has left the landscape is Lawson's Chip Dip. I get many hits on this blog from people out of Ohio, I'm thinking former Buckeyes, looking for availability of this chip dip. I had gotten an email from a former resident of Cleveland looking for it. I emailed Circle K about this sometime ago asking if it was possible to send the dip out to those out of state, they said because of quality issues that it was not possible. Sometimes Sports are Just Sports

 This may or may not make the final cut of my book. I was writing about some events this weekend and what had started as a joyous Friday night at my home school district became a weekend of heartbreak in the area after what happened at another school. Sometimes We Need to Realize That Sports are Just Games   Friday nights in late summer and early fall are sometimes a big deal for high school students and their families. As the long-time band announcer for my local high school, it is a time of year I always look forward to. This past Friday night was originally supposed to be the homecoming game for the local high school. The schedule had to be changed a bit because of the uncertainty of the opponents being able to field a team. There was talk around the league that they may have had to forfeit this game, so homecoming for the local school was rescheduled.
