Once again, I'm amazed

In the past 36 hours, several things have surprised me....

First, my reaction when Kathy gave me the news of Allen's passing. If you would have told me even a year ago that I would have been sobbing when I heard that news, I would have replied that you were crazy. I give Allen credit for reaching out to me.

The response to my post of two sentences. As of the time I started writing this post, there were 19 comments all in support of me. I thank everyone for all your kind words and prayers.

I also want to thank Mike, Jeremy, and Suzie for the prayer request for me and my family on their blogs. And Suzie, aka Clean and Crazy wrote a very nice post for me. I just checked Jeremy's blog and he just reposted one he did in my honor several months ago. I'm very flattered by the prayer requests and also that CNC and Jeremy in posting the tribute posts made it a point to use a tiny bit of my blog language in writing these. Cliff Note, no they don't use the term "Cliff Note".

I also thank those who came over here at the urging of others to offer your support and your compliments of this blog. I've checked some of you out already and think you have some good blogs too.

I also thank those who left messages for me on Facebook and those who have emailed me. I can't say enough about my internet family. Ditto for those who read this, don't comment here, but will tell me. Mary Ann at work is a very faithful reader of this blog. She always tells me that maybe blogging is my calling. Brenda is another one. She reminded me via email that marching season will soon be upon us. She will always send me a message to lift me up.

Allen's daughter in law, Lynn is doing a wonderful job of tying up some loose ends. She wishes to have a memorial service for him in the near future, but is facing some opposition from some who have no business opposing anything. I have a post in draft that dealt with that issue. Posts like that, I leave in draft until I'm over the feeling. Then they're deleted. Doesn't do anyone any good, unless the aim is to hurt feelings. Not part of my mechanics.

Those who come here in the past couple of days, please visit again. I change direction here about as often as I change my socks so there's no telling what you might find here when you return.

Can't really use "Cliff Note" when your name isn't Cliff, Cliff! :)

But that aside - I figured it would be the right thing to do to try and brighten a dark time - and it looks like I did my job. Still praying from down here in Northern Kentucky...

Cliff, I'm glad that you and Allen got a chance to resolve difficulties. I hope that things will go smoothly for the memorial service. Take care of yourself.

Post 800: Time to chat

Hi Guys, It's hard to believe that this is post number 800 for this blog. I started this blog out of my desire to communicate. Since radio and television is becoming more and more automated and less and less personal, I'm glad I made the decision to go in this direction as it has given me many blessings. When I first decided to write my musings, a friend from the radio and television boards who goes by the name of newsnomore, told me not to be discouraged if I didn't get any readers. The fact that I did in the early going made me surprised and grateful that anyone was enjoying what I wrote. I've had people tell me that maybe it wasn't meant for me to ever be in radio, that maybe my calling was blogging. Nowadays I think blogging makes for better two way conversation than terrestrial radio, especially the way I do it, non confrontational. The closest I come from any confrontation is the innocent digs that Pat and I shoot at each other. On an average day I get betwee...

My job

I have worked at my company for, unofficially, 17 years. When I first started working there in June, 1992, the average work week was 55-57 hours. Sometimes you worked more than that. I was 36 years old at the time and I could handle the long hours and short nights of sleep. 17 years and three knee surgeries later, I need less hours work and more hours sleep. Even moving into a quasi desk job, I still find it difficult to crawl out of bed at 3am. I could get up later if I wanted to put up with both rush hours. But this morning, things will change slightly. I received a call from my department manager yesterday. I was notified that I had to cut my time down to 40 hours. This would be down from 44-45 that I normally work. No surprise there as all the other departments got notified before I was. And I had to split my time between plants, doing calibrations at the other shop 1-1/2 days a week. I'm actually looking forward to the change. I also like the prospect of getting an hour extra...

From a "Battleground State"

I am going to make this one short and sweet. I live in Ohio, in this election season, one of the so called "Battleground states," a state crucial for any candidate presidential hopes. Of course we have had many visits from presidential and vice presidential candidates. Other blogs have dissected both campaigns so I will not. The only questions I have is will the promises made by either of these candidates exclusive to these states be fulfilled, or will they prove only to be hot air?
