Now the waiting.... And a find

I am waiting for an ice storm to be coming through the area. We've been watching the weather reports. By now Chicago has already been hit. From what I see, the Terre Haute gang will be spared this time. WIXYjr should be driving home while it's occurring.

If we get some ice hanging on the trees the WIXYcam will be there to bring you the latest.

I've been in a blue funk today, so I decided to go to the Goodwill and look around. I have to do this once in awhile in order to maintain my standing as white trash. While I was there I found two books in real good condition that I think I would give my younger brother for Christmas. My brother has been wheelchair bound for the past 20 years and now resides in a nursing home. Since both my parents are deceased, my wife and I have guardianship over him. He likes sports and can discuss statistics with anybody, although he is mildly retarded.

The books were "The Stone Cold Truth," by Stone Cold Steve Austin and "Mankind-Have a Nice Day," by Mick Foley. Both books are in like new condition and if new, would cost together $52.00. I bought them for $2.00 a piece. My brother will appreciate them regardless, maybe even more if I tell him, which I won't. I have told my wife if Ricky was normal, he would be independently wealthy because he's so tight with his own money.

Oh, we will buy him some other gifts, probably from the Evil Big Box Store(tm).

Update: My friend from that state up north, Jessica, had posted this past Monday in her blog, Five Pines about finding some books in an antique mall. The post is titled "I Found a Treasure".

You must be getting the same storm we are getting. We live in SW Michigan right across the lake from Chicago. It's blowing and snowing and nasty out right now. And they are talking freezing rain later tonight. I'm worried because my son is at a winter prom tonight with a bunch of friends. I'm praying they all make it home safe.

You already know I love a great used book find!!

Jessica: Nothing is happening here yet. According to weather reports, we should get it around 6:00(EST).

Besides the thrift shops there is an excellent used book store in nearby Wooster, called Books in Stock. Most of the books I have bought for myself I have either bought at a greatly reduced price.

WIXY...I occasionally hit the Goodwill store on Lorain Avenue near Great Northern Mall by me. I bought a suit there once for $20. You're definitely not "white trash" for shopping there. I'm amazed at what people discard.

As I said on the post above this one, I've been in a funny(strange) mood this weekend.

The "white trash" comment came from feeling sorry for myself.

Please pardon my insensitivity.

Post 800: Time to chat

Hi Guys, It's hard to believe that this is post number 800 for this blog. I started this blog out of my desire to communicate. Since radio and television is becoming more and more automated and less and less personal, I'm glad I made the decision to go in this direction as it has given me many blessings. When I first decided to write my musings, a friend from the radio and television boards who goes by the name of newsnomore, told me not to be discouraged if I didn't get any readers. The fact that I did in the early going made me surprised and grateful that anyone was enjoying what I wrote. I've had people tell me that maybe it wasn't meant for me to ever be in radio, that maybe my calling was blogging. Nowadays I think blogging makes for better two way conversation than terrestrial radio, especially the way I do it, non confrontational. The closest I come from any confrontation is the innocent digs that Pat and I shoot at each other. On an average day I get betwee...

Expand My Territories

Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, "Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain." And God granted his request. 1 Chronicles 4:10 NIV The verse above is commonly referred to as the Prayer of Jabez. I was impressed to find my copy of the book written by Bruce Wilkinson and read it again. Some recent happenings prompted me to reflect upon how my territories have been expanded. The Lord has been blessing me and I have really not deserved these blessings. The past several years, I have been sharing my poetry with my friends on Facebook. I also share the poems with others by writing them on index cards. These are usually received with smiles and people telling me that I should write a book. For years, I have been under the belief that poets and composers achieve the greatest fame after they start decomposing.  The last year or so, I have shared my poems with some best selling author...

From a "Battleground State"

I am going to make this one short and sweet. I live in Ohio, in this election season, one of the so called "Battleground states," a state crucial for any candidate presidential hopes. Of course we have had many visits from presidential and vice presidential candidates. Other blogs have dissected both campaigns so I will not. The only questions I have is will the promises made by either of these candidates exclusive to these states be fulfilled, or will they prove only to be hot air?
