Broadcasting versus Communicating

My friends over at WQMX have this contest called "A trip a day in May." Now those who are familiar with my blogs know that I play around with poetry a bit. After hearing Sue and Scott banter about and do some other rhyming with this, I started thinking about this myself. And you know that I am game to practice my Seussian skills. Anyway I got to work that morning and sent Wynn and Wilson the following email:
A trip a day in May, you say?
Tell me the rules and I may play
Thank you for helping me kill some time
Driving to work and thinking this rhyme

Well the next morning Sue read this over the air and they said that they were going to build on this poem for the promotion. I sent Sue an email thanking her for the shout out and she told me that they like to involve the listeners. Last Friday, Kathy and I heard a variation of that as the details of the contest were given. Anyway that's a good example of using the airwaves to communicate rather than just to broadcast. There are those who like to interract that can't express themselves verbally as well as others. Scott and Sue have this way of bringing out the best of listeners.

Once again, I've been taking pot shots, so I must be doing something right. I got to thinking about this communication stuff. That's why I like those who interract with me on these blogs. We communicate very well one with another. Communication is two way and occurs when we aren't thinking that what we have to say is any more important than what others have to say. It's also the way we learn from each other. We are fresh water streams when we communicate. When we just broadcast and not take anything in, we become cesspools.

When we have the attitude that "everybody's entitled to MY opinion," we are on our way to becoming a legend in our own mind. We get the feeling that we are only talking to ourselves, and you know what? We are. You can have that kind of ego if you are the type who like to hear yourself talk.

As for me? I enjoy communicating with others.

lol i like that - - "...everyone's entitled to MY opinion!" - - that's a great line cliff! and in our society today it's a line well worth remembering as we're all blasted for having ideas/thoughts/opinions/morals that might be different from others. there's really room enough for all of us......

Communication is like good sex, it take more than three minutes to get me there, because it's a give and take kind of motion .... hope that made you smile!

Enjoyed catching up ... I can see you have been busy.

Just so you know, there are companies that pay a lot for good jingles. Next time charge the radio for using your art .... they charge for ads. Turn around is fair play.

Amias, I never meant to lose touch and now I'm trying to not forget those, such as yourself, who have helped make me the blogger I am.

After the surge in readers I had last week, I just started thinking about my old friends and getting back to basics here.

That's a common thread that's running through my mind this week. And during all this I thought a lot about Suzanne.

Post 800: Time to chat

Hi Guys, It's hard to believe that this is post number 800 for this blog. I started this blog out of my desire to communicate. Since radio and television is becoming more and more automated and less and less personal, I'm glad I made the decision to go in this direction as it has given me many blessings. When I first decided to write my musings, a friend from the radio and television boards who goes by the name of newsnomore, told me not to be discouraged if I didn't get any readers. The fact that I did in the early going made me surprised and grateful that anyone was enjoying what I wrote. I've had people tell me that maybe it wasn't meant for me to ever be in radio, that maybe my calling was blogging. Nowadays I think blogging makes for better two way conversation than terrestrial radio, especially the way I do it, non confrontational. The closest I come from any confrontation is the innocent digs that Pat and I shoot at each other. On an average day I get betwee...

From a "Battleground State"

I am going to make this one short and sweet. I live in Ohio, in this election season, one of the so called "Battleground states," a state crucial for any candidate presidential hopes. Of course we have had many visits from presidential and vice presidential candidates. Other blogs have dissected both campaigns so I will not. The only questions I have is will the promises made by either of these candidates exclusive to these states be fulfilled, or will they prove only to be hot air?

My job

I have worked at my company for, unofficially, 17 years. When I first started working there in June, 1992, the average work week was 55-57 hours. Sometimes you worked more than that. I was 36 years old at the time and I could handle the long hours and short nights of sleep. 17 years and three knee surgeries later, I need less hours work and more hours sleep. Even moving into a quasi desk job, I still find it difficult to crawl out of bed at 3am. I could get up later if I wanted to put up with both rush hours. But this morning, things will change slightly. I received a call from my department manager yesterday. I was notified that I had to cut my time down to 40 hours. This would be down from 44-45 that I normally work. No surprise there as all the other departments got notified before I was. And I had to split my time between plants, doing calibrations at the other shop 1-1/2 days a week. I'm actually looking forward to the change. I also like the prospect of getting an hour extra...
