Fried green tomatoes and half runners

Today has been a slow day and deservedly so for us. We did some grocery shopping and then were talking about getting some produce that you can only get so often, green tomatoes. Most of the time when you go to a roadside stand, you cannot find any green ones, just the good red tomatoes. Kathy likes fried green tomatoes so I had suggested that she go on Freecycle and ask other members if they had any for her. We got a nibble, but no bite, so I called Bender's Farm Market, in nearby Copley, Ohio. They told me that they do sell green tomatoes, so I decided that we would go there and get some.

Great thing about going to farm markets this time of year is you can get some good deals and also some produce that is just ripe enough. And if you like your fruits and veggies, you never leave with just what went there for. They also had some very sizable cantaloupes for 99 cents, and to our daughter's delight, half runner green beans. We also got a small basket of ripe(as opposed to rock hard) peaches. And we did get our green tomatoes, which we fried up for supper tonight.

What we need to do before summer's end is to go to Amish Country and check out some of their produce, and hope we can get some more green tomatoes.

Now I have to go eat some cantaloupe.

If you go to Amish Country don't forget to stop at the newly expanded Bent N Dent, The Bargain Shed, and D & S.

We have some Amish who bring produce in to a stand in town that I like to visit. Cherries, peaches, and blueberries are my favorites from there. I bet Kathy was glad to get some green tomatoes. That was nice of you to make the effort to find them for her.

Yummy: I love fried green tomatoes.. have not had them in years.. since I grew my own tomatoes years and years ago for 2 summers.

We discovered a great source for fresh fruit and veg last week too - our hospital! A local charity group sell their produce outside the hospital every week. We bought cantaloupe (had it last night), plums, potatoes... loads of stuff. All fresher than from the supermarket and way tastier. :-)

AND... we got yellow tomatoes, which hubby loved as a kid and hadn't seen in years.

I just love fried green tomatoes and also the ripe ones. They are starting to produce in our local area and the taste is out of sight.

If you are fortunate to see any Georgia grown peaches...snatch some because we have had a bumper crop of juicy, sweet peaches.

I love fried green tomatoes most of all .. especially the way I do them. Good luck finding Georgia Peaches, I haven't found any yet, but then again I am in Texas.

Hi Guys, It's hard to believe that this is post number 800 for this blog. I started this blog out of my desire to communicate. From a "Battleground State"

I am going to make this one short and sweet. I live in Ohio, in this election season, one of the so called "Battleground states," a state crucial for any candidate presidential hopes. Of course we have had many visits from presidential and vice presidential candidates. Other blogs have dissected both campaigns so I will not. The only questions I have is will the promises made by either of these candidates exclusive to these states be fulfilled, or will they prove only to be hot air?

Why?

What I'm posting now is with the blessing of Chelle. Chelle is the cousin of Suzanne's husband, Richard. I had gotten the impression from both of them that they were about as close as sisters. Suzanne had been a friend of mine since I had discovered one of her blogs in July, 2006. We would make reference to each other on our blogs and would have dialogue via email quite a bit. It was no surprise to me that she was friends to many other bloggers as well. I felt it was quite an honor to be held in as high esteem as I was. We even talked to each other on the phone on occasion. I felt as we had known each other for a long time. I also knew that Suzanne was having some personal problems, much of which had to do with a very troubled marriage. I would let her bounce things off me, and I would send her some encouragement.
