Air at 25% APR

For a couple of years when I was growing up, my dad had a gas station. Now let me digress a little. The gas station was leased from Gulf Oil. This company was bought out by BP. Now BP's biggest worry is gulf oil. Cliff Note: Though I appear to joke, I know the situation in the Gulf of Mexico is no laughing matter.

Anyway back to the gas station. This was back in the days that you could get maps and air for free. Well maps at gas stations haven't been free for a very long time, and you have to pay for air at most places today too though some establishments are proclaiming free air as if it's the best thing since sliced bread.

Today I gassed up at a convenience store whose name sounds like a ranch. After I fueled up, I went inside and bought a fountain drink. I got into my car and drove around the lot and was reminded when I passed the air machine that it accepted plastic. Funny
that if you don't pay your credit card bill, you are being charged a high percentage of interest for essentially nothing.

Okay back to BP. They now have a very tarnished name and many of us baby boomers and older in Ohio sort of missed the company they bought out on their way to re
assembling the Standard Oil monopoly. So maybe if they would change their name here in Ohio, that would be a nice start. I have a suggestion about what they could change it to...

BP is in a big mess of their own making. I guess that I never thought about how corrupt oil companies could be when I was a kid. But lately when I hear the lies coming from the BP talking heads, it reminds me how naive I once was. Nothing seems to be free or for service anymore--chasing the $$ seems to be what everyone is about.

I remember Sohio signs when I was living in Ohio. Didn't realize that the are a thing of the past.

Hi Guys, It's hard to believe that this is post number 800 for this blog. I started this blog out of my desire to communicate. Sometimes Sports are Just Sports

 This may or may not make the final cut of my book. I was writing about some events this weekend and what had started as a joyous Friday night at my home school district became a weekend of heartbreak in the area after what happened at another school. Sometimes We Need to Realize That Sports are Just Games   Friday nights in late summer and early fall are sometimes a big deal for high school students and their families. As the long-time band announcer for my local high school, it is a time of year I always look forward to. This past Friday night was originally supposed to be the homecoming game for the local high school. The schedule had to be changed a bit because of the uncertainty of the opponents being able to field a team. There was talk around the league that they may have had to forfeit this game, so homecoming for the local school was rescheduled. Lawson's Chip Dip

On a couple of occasions I have written posts dedicated to Lawson's, a convenience store chain that was located in Ohio for close to 50 years. In the late 1980's the chain was bought out by Dairy Mart, of Engfield Ct. Dairy Mart was then purchased by Alimentation Couche-Tard, and most stored were rebranded Circle K. Something that has survived the years since Lawson's has left the landscape is Lawson's Chip Dip. I get many hits on this blog from people out of Ohio, I'm thinking former Buckeyes, looking for availability of this chip dip. I had gotten an email from a former resident of Cleveland looking for it. I emailed Circle K about this sometime ago asking if it was possible to send the dip out to those out of state, they said because of quality issues that it was not possible. My only suggestion would be to get in touch with Circle K in your home area and ask them to start stocking this very popular item that seems to make every get-together complete. Now we wil
