On my way out of a blue funk

Mama said there'd be says like this: After coming home from helping WIXYjr get his car back, I get a call Sunday evening while I'm watching the Daytona 500. It was WIXYjr. He told me that his driver's side windshield wiper wasn't working and his brake light and battery light was on. Another weekend probably will be shot to heck, and my wife isn't too happy about it. Neither am I for that matter. Guess where I probably will be headed this weekend?

One certainty in life: I arrive to work yesterday to find one of my friends had passed away Saturday afternoon, while working on his daughter's car. We still don't know the cause or when visiting hours are going to be. Being one of the company's original employees, he will be missed by all. We were all very numb when we heard the news. I'm half in tears typing these words.

Bright spot in all of this: Driving home from work yesterday, I was getting tired of hearing Triv's mindless drivel, so I hooked up my mp3 player and was listening to Dave Ramsey's free podcast. I had a Friday program on, listening to debt free success stories. By the way, there is a new revised version of "The Total Money Makeover" in stores now. The stories made me feel better. I listened to some more coming to work this morning. I feel the Salem stations have done a real disservice by not working with Dave to keep his program on. their infomercials they have on at that time do nothing for me.

Bub, just wanted to drop a line and say a big-time thanks for spreading the word about Dave Ramsey and debt-freedom! Those podcasts are something else, ain't they? Good luck on deep-sixing your own debt (if you have any). Here's looking at you, kid. www.debtective.com

Cliff,

Really like your blog today. I like that you added the links. One thing I have always liked about you is our shared interest and belief in Dave's teachings. His show is inspirational, and I agree it is a shame about Salem not working out. I wish I could MP3 Dave in my car on my way to and from work. How's the plan working for you? It's working for us!

Post 800: Time to chat

Hi Guys, It's hard to believe that this is post number 800 for this blog. I started this blog out of my desire to communicate. Since radio and television is becoming more and more automated and less and less personal, I'm glad I made the decision to go in this direction as it has given me many blessings. When I first decided to write my musings, a friend from the radio and television boards who goes by the name of newsnomore, told me not to be discouraged if I didn't get any readers. The fact that I did in the early going made me surprised and grateful that anyone was enjoying what I wrote. I've had people tell me that maybe it wasn't meant for me to ever be in radio, that maybe my calling was blogging. Nowadays I think blogging makes for better two way conversation than terrestrial radio, especially the way I do it, non confrontational. The closest I come from any confrontation is the innocent digs that Pat and I shoot at each other. On an average day I get betwee...

From a "Battleground State"

I am going to make this one short and sweet. I live in Ohio, in this election season, one of the so called "Battleground states," a state crucial for any candidate presidential hopes. Of course we have had many visits from presidential and vice presidential candidates. Other blogs have dissected both campaigns so I will not. The only questions I have is will the promises made by either of these candidates exclusive to these states be fulfilled, or will they prove only to be hot air?

Bananas and Sleep Apnea

First thing I want to do is welcome all the good folks from Australia who are checking me out as a result of Google searches. I recently wrote a post on sleep apnea , discussing my history with it and my new CPAP machine. Because of this and the name of my blog, this is the top site google lists when somebody types "bananas sleep apnea" into the search line on Google. All of the sites I have seen, that were not the usual sites that come here, ended in "dot au" which I know as Australia. Normally the only hit from down under is by my good friend David McMahon. The reason for the search is that a research team in Australia has found. as a result of a study, that drinking a banana smoothie may assist in easing conditions that cause sleep apnea. Phospholipids, or fatty acids, in bananas stay active in the mouth for six hours and may keep the throat open, therefore reducing the risk of choking. Further studies will expand to those, like myself, who need a breathing machi...
