What a drag it is getting old

Yesterday, I went to my Primary Care Provider, which is HMO speak for family doctor. Good news is my blood pressure is down. It was 134/76. The bad news is I gained three pounds since the last time, my blood glucose was high and my cholesetrol was high. I was given one more prescription for my diabetes.

One thing that goes along with the territory when you have diabetes is depression. This is especially true when people tell you about others with diabetes who are having heart failure, kidney failure, etc. you wish for someone to tell you a story with a happy ending.

I went into a depression yesterday evening and it carried into today. I called a health coach from the HMO, and they set up an appointment with my counselor. I had been putting off getting an appointment since the holidays, but felt that I needed this, especially since I've been treated for depression for over 1-1/2 years now.

Another problem is changing habits. Fortunately I don't consume alcohol, so that is something I don't have to worry about. My problem is things sitting around the house. My wife's number two vice is Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and she likes to have them around. My son likes to cook things, usually some sort of dessert. So sometimes my resistance is tested.

I'm hoping now that the weather is breaking that I can get my bicycle out and get some exercise. I can also take the WIXYcam with me and get some shots of Rittman to share with my blogging family. If I can drop a few pounds I may be able to shake some of the problems I'm having now.

Of course with the cholesterol up, the newest problem will be saying no next time the family suggests going to the chicken house. Let's see, no carbohydrates, no cholesterol, no saturated fats, no sodium, no taste.

Having diabetes sucks...and makes it hard to fight depression. I am a diabetic and know that often times I just get depressed hearingother 'diabetic stories'...keep the faith and hop on that bike..meet ya halfway!

New post on my blog entitled "5 Word Memoir" and I tagged you, so please check it out.
Old age in and of itself cause depression, and depression causes physical illness.

I know how you feel Cliff, for we here at my place is in the same boat, so move over.

You will be all right, and you will be strong --- now that's a happy ending!

there are good carbs and bad carbs. good carbs for example are carbs found in broccoli, cauliflower, walnuts, pecans, almonds and many more.. bad carbs are those found in most sweets, most breads, juices, etc.

there is a book called Good calories, bad calories, which goes into more detail.

also there are glycemic load indexes you can find on line.. foods with a low glycemic load index contribute to a slow rise in blood sugar, which i from understanding is a key to controlling diabetes.

just like there are good fats and bad fats, there are good carbs and bad carbs.

The book's name i think is Good Calories, Bad Calories, which goes into much more detail and the ratio of good cholestoral to bad cholestoral is important.

I am obsessing over what I said or thought I said.. I am just trying to be helpful in my posts and apologize for my Obsesssive Compulsive Disorder reason for posting the same book title twice but once I did not capitalize the correct wording. Diabetes can actually be cured, not just controlled.

I know you run a faith blog too and I would like to add that each of us are sinners and are in need of salvation. A person can become saved if they put their faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior, for the forgiveness of their sins.

Post 800: Time to chat

Hi Guys, It's hard to believe that this is post number 800 for this blog. I started this blog out of my desire to communicate. Since radio and television is becoming more and more automated and less and less personal, I'm glad I made the decision to go in this direction as it has given me many blessings. When I first decided to write my musings, a friend from the radio and television boards who goes by the name of newsnomore, told me not to be discouraged if I didn't get any readers. The fact that I did in the early going made me surprised and grateful that anyone was enjoying what I wrote. I've had people tell me that maybe it wasn't meant for me to ever be in radio, that maybe my calling was blogging. Nowadays I think blogging makes for better two way conversation than terrestrial radio, especially the way I do it, non confrontational. The closest I come from any confrontation is the innocent digs that Pat and I shoot at each other. On an average day I get betwee

Lawson's Chip Dip

On a couple of occasions I have written posts dedicated to Lawson's, a convenience store chain that was located in Ohio for close to 50 years. In the late 1980's the chain was bought out by Dairy Mart, of Engfield Ct. Dairy Mart was then purchased by Alimentation Couche-Tard, and most stored were rebranded Circle K. Something that has survived the years since Lawson's has left the landscape is Lawson's Chip Dip. I get many hits on this blog from people out of Ohio, I'm thinking former Buckeyes, looking for availability of this chip dip. I had gotten an email from a former resident of Cleveland looking for it. I emailed Circle K about this sometime ago asking if it was possible to send the dip out to those out of state, they said because of quality issues that it was not possible. My only suggestion would be to get in touch with Circle K in your home area and ask them to start stocking this very popular item that seems to make every get-together complete. Now we wil

Sometimes Sports are Just Sports

This may or may not make the final cut of my book. I was writing about some events this weekend and what had started as a joyous Friday night at my home school district became a weekend of heartbreak in the area after what happened at another school. Sometimes We Need to Realize That Sports are Just Games   Friday nights in late summer and early fall are sometimes a big deal for high school students and their families. As the long-time band announcer for my local high school, it is a time of year I always look forward to. This past Friday night was originally supposed to be the homecoming game for the local high school. The schedule had to be changed a bit because of the uncertainty of the opponents being able to field a team. There was talk around the league that they may have had to forfeit this game, so homecoming for the local school was rescheduled. The opponents, which are rivals of my local school district, were able to field a team and the game was played. The game was
