Turning a corner

To all who have been coming in the past week, welcome. You are going to find out what I'm about. To all of my longtime friends, thank you for all your support this past week. I had no idea when I started the tribute posts to Suzanne what was going to become of them.

And to Suzanne...Thank you for having such good friends in "Bloggeritaville." I think we will all do a good job of taking care of each other. You won't ever be forgotten. And if there is ever a bloggers hall of fame, you will be one of the first inductees.

I picked up a bunch of new friends this past week. Some of these friends I've crossed paths with before, either at Liquid Illuzion or at authorblog. First new friend I want to introduce you to is familiar to many who come here, Sandy Carlson. Sandy writes several blogs, her main one is called Writing in Faith. She is a very talented lady. Sandy also wrote some posts in Suzanne's memory.

Next up is Betty Ann. She has made several comments here and gave me several smiles. Betty Ann is one of several Al-Anon members with blogs. What I have read of her blog, Diary of a Frugal Hen Without a Rooster, she has tons of advice we all can use.

Mojo contacted me yesterday evening. He wanted me to see his Flash 55. Funny thing was that I had already written a 55 of my own(see post below.) His blog is called Why? What have you heard? Also a good blog to read.

As you have read this past week, my son is bipolar. Bipolar disorder is a very misunderstood condition. I want to do anything I can to help prevent prematurely losing anyone else who is burdened with this disorder. This afternoon I helped my wife start a blog which will tell of her experiences with our son and some of the things she has found out of services available for those who are close to those afflicted with bipolar disorder. In the next few days, I will have her write a guest post here, introducing her new blog.

Now to the new friends I have coming here, in the next few days I will give you a reason to visit my other friends, as I present the 2008 Top Banana Awards. I have some of the best blogger buddies around, and you will see why.

Thanks for the introduction, my friend. You are part of my blog family now, too. I added you to my blogroll the other day.

I am going to keep my Suzanne memorial on my sidebar as a tribute to her, to her friends, to her family, and to all who suffer with bipolar disorder. May her beautiful smile be what our lives are all about!

God bless.

Brenda: Right back atcha! You have been a great source of support this past week. And Kathy's blog is located at burpsmom.blogspot.com

Sandy, my memorial is going nowhere. I do wish that someone in Mississippi would start a Suzanne Horne Bipolar Disorder Foundation.

....you are indeed a Sweet Sweet Man.....a real "sweetie"........ I can understand why Suzanne was good friends with you.

You did help her by being in her Life... that I know is something 'true'

I did not know about her until I stumbled upon Syd's Blog. I stayed up and read her entire blog...what a creative and lovely lady she was indeed. I hope she is enjoying taking photos up in the clouds... of the sun light and all the colors of heaven.

Cliff I have been waiting for the Top Banana awards. It is always a treat. Are we wearing tuxedos to this years ceremony? I better find the cuff links!

My sister deals with Bi Polar so I 100% understand what you guys are going through. She is 30 and it has been some hard times. I deal with depression so I too know how hard mental illness is. I look forward to your wife's new blog. You are right, Bi Polar is very misunderstood. I'm glad I have the opportunity to get to know you. The circumstances are just unfortunate. Take care and keep the faith. Many Blessings, Jenn

Hi. Just found you through Galen (G-Man) and was surprised and saddened to hear of Liquid passing. Had visited her only a couple of times and still do not know what happened. Will look into the other tributes. D

My brother is bi polar as well, I am always worried about him. I haven't seen him in quite a while and wonder if he is alright. I hope he at least has someone like you to talk with.

Cliff...as you know, my ex-wife is schizophrenic. Mental illness, whether it's schizophrenia or bipolar, is largely misunderstood by the general public. I cringe whenever I hear someone loosely use terms like "schizophrenic", "schizo", or "they're so bipolar." People don't get it unless they're been through it or experienced it with a loved one.

There are some local mental health treatment facilities that are in Suz's hometown area that I am sure would love to take memorial donations in her honor! Let me know if I can help by getting you some of the information for them. Great way to honor her and help others fight this same battle.

Post 800: Time to chat

Hi Guys, It's hard to believe that this is post number 800 for this blog. I started this blog out of my desire to communicate. Since radio and television is becoming more and more automated and less and less personal, I'm glad I made the decision to go in this direction as it has given me many blessings. When I first decided to write my musings, a friend from the radio and television boards who goes by the name of newsnomore, told me not to be discouraged if I didn't get any readers. The fact that I did in the early going made me surprised and grateful that anyone was enjoying what I wrote. I've had people tell me that maybe it wasn't meant for me to ever be in radio, that maybe my calling was blogging. Nowadays I think blogging makes for better two way conversation than terrestrial radio, especially the way I do it, non confrontational. The closest I come from any confrontation is the innocent digs that Pat and I shoot at each other. On an average day I get betwee

Lawson's Chip Dip

On a couple of occasions I have written posts dedicated to Lawson's, a convenience store chain that was located in Ohio for close to 50 years. In the late 1980's the chain was bought out by Dairy Mart, of Engfield Ct. Dairy Mart was then purchased by Alimentation Couche-Tard, and most stored were rebranded Circle K. Something that has survived the years since Lawson's has left the landscape is Lawson's Chip Dip. I get many hits on this blog from people out of Ohio, I'm thinking former Buckeyes, looking for availability of this chip dip. I had gotten an email from a former resident of Cleveland looking for it. I emailed Circle K about this sometime ago asking if it was possible to send the dip out to those out of state, they said because of quality issues that it was not possible. My only suggestion would be to get in touch with Circle K in your home area and ask them to start stocking this very popular item that seems to make every get-together complete. Now we wil

Sometimes Sports are Just Sports

This may or may not make the final cut of my book. I was writing about some events this weekend and what had started as a joyous Friday night at my home school district became a weekend of heartbreak in the area after what happened at another school. Sometimes We Need to Realize That Sports are Just Games   Friday nights in late summer and early fall are sometimes a big deal for high school students and their families. As the long-time band announcer for my local high school, it is a time of year I always look forward to. This past Friday night was originally supposed to be the homecoming game for the local high school. The schedule had to be changed a bit because of the uncertainty of the opponents being able to field a team. There was talk around the league that they may have had to forfeit this game, so homecoming for the local school was rescheduled. The opponents, which are rivals of my local school district, were able to field a team and the game was played. The game was
