Happy New Year 2008

WOW! 2007 was quite a year here in the ole blogosphere. Between my two blogs, I posted 338 times, and judging by the overwhelmingly positive comments, I have made many friends in the past 365 days here.

Last night we stayed home and celebrated the new year's arrival very quietly. I had been awake since 2:30am, so I think I would be a hazard on the road anyhow. I watched New Years Rockin Eve. Dick Clark, still showing the effects of the stroke he suffered 3 years ago, looked good for someone who's almost 79 years old.

I should give awards more often. Yesterday this blog got 80 hits, which is 31 hits over the daily average. I had fun thinking up names for for all the awards and trying to remember all those who have been major contributors to the overall success of this blog. Once again, you are all winners.

What I want for 2008: Hopefully all those who see me this coming year will see less and less of me as the year progresses. Diamond contacted me, asking for a story about my weight loss struggles. Visit A Day in the Zone often because she will be posting stories hoping to motivate others. I also have financial goals to meet in the coming year.

A book I recommend folks to read is called The Fred Factor, by Mark Sanborn. I have this book in audio form, so I have listened several times. It can show you how you can be the best at what you do. I especially recommend this book to Michelle, as customer service is stressed.

All those who stop here are people who have shown me that they use the internet for good. Hopefully we can touch many people in a positive way in 2008.

And lastly: The photo currently on my profile is how I looked when I was 16. The green tie was the only one I owned. Not too many things have changed. I still don't own too many ties and the last time I wore one was June 23 for my daughter's wedding.

I liked your comment about people on the internet can be good. I have to admit that for a long time I wanted to start blogging but I was afraid. I had this idea that most people online were some type of predators and while those types of people are out there, you are right, there are wonderful people out there too and I am happy to have found them. I hope to get to know even more in the new year.

Thanks for sharing yourself with us.... Jessica

Jessica,

You have a lot of good content to share with the rest of us. I've been having fun blogging since August, 2006. I have more fun as time goes on sharing my life and interests with others, in most cases, who I would never have had contact with.

Have a great 2008

Happy New Year Cliff.
You are not kidding about the stress
of customer service. The drunks at
2:30am can be a real pain.
As for my blog. Well I will be working
on that. Soon I hope.
I'm supposed to be getting information
from someone about the Music First
Coalition. These are the folks who
want radio stations to pay the
artists for airplay.
And finally another book to help
everyone along in life.
One Small Step Can Change Your
Life. The Kaizen Way. by Robert
Maurer, Ph.D. I enjoyed it a lot.

This is in response to Mike Dane's comment above...when I was in radio, we paid a yearly royalty fee to ASCAP (the American Society for Composers, Artists, and Publishers...I think that's what the letters stand for.). The fee was supposed to go to the record companies/artists for us playing their records.

Awesome post as always and I'll check out the book when I get the chance. I was afraid to blog for a little while then suddenly I started getting so many postive comments that it has motivated me to do more.

Post 800: Time to chat

Hi Guys, It's hard to believe that this is post number 800 for this blog. I started this blog out of my desire to communicate. Since radio and television is becoming more and more automated and less and less personal, I'm glad I made the decision to go in this direction as it has given me many blessings. When I first decided to write my musings, a friend from the radio and television boards who goes by the name of newsnomore, told me not to be discouraged if I didn't get any readers. The fact that I did in the early going made me surprised and grateful that anyone was enjoying what I wrote. I've had people tell me that maybe it wasn't meant for me to ever be in radio, that maybe my calling was blogging. Nowadays I think blogging makes for better two way conversation than terrestrial radio, especially the way I do it, non confrontational. The closest I come from any confrontation is the innocent digs that Pat and I shoot at each other. On an average day I get betwee

Lawson's Chip Dip

On a couple of occasions I have written posts dedicated to Lawson's, a convenience store chain that was located in Ohio for close to 50 years. In the late 1980's the chain was bought out by Dairy Mart, of Engfield Ct. Dairy Mart was then purchased by Alimentation Couche-Tard, and most stored were rebranded Circle K. Something that has survived the years since Lawson's has left the landscape is Lawson's Chip Dip. I get many hits on this blog from people out of Ohio, I'm thinking former Buckeyes, looking for availability of this chip dip. I had gotten an email from a former resident of Cleveland looking for it. I emailed Circle K about this sometime ago asking if it was possible to send the dip out to those out of state, they said because of quality issues that it was not possible. My only suggestion would be to get in touch with Circle K in your home area and ask them to start stocking this very popular item that seems to make every get-together complete. Now we wil

Sometimes Sports are Just Sports

This may or may not make the final cut of my book. I was writing about some events this weekend and what had started as a joyous Friday night at my home school district became a weekend of heartbreak in the area after what happened at another school. Sometimes We Need to Realize That Sports are Just Games   Friday nights in late summer and early fall are sometimes a big deal for high school students and their families. As the long-time band announcer for my local high school, it is a time of year I always look forward to. This past Friday night was originally supposed to be the homecoming game for the local high school. The schedule had to be changed a bit because of the uncertainty of the opponents being able to field a team. There was talk around the league that they may have had to forfeit this game, so homecoming for the local school was rescheduled. The opponents, which are rivals of my local school district, were able to field a team and the game was played. The game was
